Instrument Simulator

VOR/NDB Simulation

This simulation allows the user to set relative positions between an airplane, an NDB and 2 VORs and see these positions reflected in the needles.

This is a simple way to help understand how these instruments work and how they are used to navigate an aircraft.

Field Descriptions

Area A

Moving Objects

The VORs, the NDB and the Airplane can all be moved around the screen by dragging and dropping. Click on one of these objects, drag it and watch the needles react.

Area B


The OBS on the VORs can be rotated by clicking and holding to the left or right of the OBS dial. The heading on the ADF moveable card can be changed by clicking on the left and right of the HDG knob.
You can switch back and forth between a Directional Gyro (DG) and a Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) by clicking on the DG or HSI buttons. You can change the heading of the aircraft by clicking on the HSI HDG knob or the DG Push knob.

Area C


Draw Mode - In this mode the mouse cursor may be used to draw a flight path. Click and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse around the screen to draw a path.

After the path has been drawn the Smooth button can be used to take some of the bumps out of the path. The Execute button is used to have the airplane fly over the drawn flight path.

The Clear button is used to clear the flight path, the path is also cleared when the mouse button is released and then clicked again.

Execute - Begin flying over the flight path.

Clear - Clear the flight path.

Smooth - Take the bumps out of the flight path.

Pong - Have the aircraft fly around the screen making random turns when it hits a wall.

Throttle - Slide the throttle control to increase or decrease the aircraft’s speed.
